School trip to Dundee Science Centre
Dundee Science Centre is a charity and lifelong learning resource for the community.
They are here to help families learn together, to support the formal schools curriculum, advance the science communication profession, bring together science and the public, and help others to do the same too.
Their exhibitions are open 363 days per year, providing an inspiring, hands-on learning experience for everyone to visit. Their outreach work and festivals also help them take the same experiences across Scotland and beyond.
Their Purpose – Bringing people together to enjoy science.
Medical Marvels Exhibition
Enter a medical theatre where you can explore modern technology and compare the differences with traditional surgery. Witness incredible keyhole surgery demonstrations where you can also partake in a mock surgery then journey through to their anatomy table where you can explore the human body through a gesture-based interface. Get beneath the skin and have a look at the different layers in your body and look at your veins up close in a near-infrared imaging system and more! Their exhibition will let you explore the human body in almost every facet and will introduce you to the development and innovation of tools.
Immerse yourself in a fascinating world where you can explore and learn the science behind music.
Are you ready to make some noise?! This immersive interactive exhibition is fun and exciting for all ages. Learn about how electrical impulses travel through different mediums and how your brain interprets it. Experiment with instruments and test your listening ability, while identifying the sounds around you.
Bring your class
Inspire your learners with a trip to Dundee Science Centre to engage with STEM in a different setting and support learning with their curriculum-linked activities.
What’s included in a class visit?
Group visits for Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools can last up to three hours and include a workshop, time for a packed lunch, and time to explore the exhibition. Their opening times are 10:00 – 17:00 unless otherwise stated. During class visits, pupils can also explore their gift shop with its fantastic range of science-themed products. Alternatively, goodie bags can be ordered at the time of booking, starting from £3.
The Scottish Government provides some travel subsidies for schools in areas high on the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) or in rural areas. The Edina Trust also fund admissions for Fife, Angus and Perth & Kinross schools high on the SIMD. They are extremely grateful for this support which makes Dundee Science Centre accessible to a growing number of pupils each year.
